Our Day at the Beach

My friend Johanna celebrated her 30th birthday with a beach bash, and it was Grant's first trip to the beach. First thing we discovered about going to the beach with a kid: You need a lot of crap. Leigh and I used to go to the beach with some beach chairs and a couple of towels. Yesterday we brought: 2 beach chairs, 2 towels, a sheet, a large umbrella, diapers, wipes, baby toys, sunscreen, baby sunscreen, water bottles and infant formula. It was a lot of crap.

Grant did pretty well with the sand, although he discovered that it didn't taste good:

Meanwhile, Leigh tried to set up our new umbrella.

Grant and Holden chilled on the beach towels...

...until Holden started grabbing at Grant's hat. Grant = not happy.

Daddy came by to comfort Grant.

And then went back to working on the umbrella.

Then we decided to show Grant the ocean. It didn't go well.

Fortunately, Daddy was there to comfort him again!

Grant was thrilled to leave the beach, as traumatizing as the whole experience was. But we're already planning our next trip there. Just as soon as we return the stupid umbrella.
